Christmas Music Brings Me Joy

I listen to Christmas music year-around. I know. Even people who love Christmas can't do that. But I LOVE the Third Day Christmas CD! I have it on my iPod which means it's on my alarm clock which means I will listen to "Oh, Holy Night" (my favorite Christmas song) in July.

So, I had no problem cranking up the Christmas music pre-Thanksgiving. Have you heard the new Chris Tomlin Christmas CD? If not, buy it! It has the best version of "Oh Come, All Ye Faithful" (my second favorite Christmas song) that I have heard. Christy Nockels joins Tomlin on the CD and has a few solos that are AWESOME! I've been listening to that CD for three weeks straight! If you are a fan of Chris Tomlin or just Christmas music in general, you will want to invest!

What's funny is that I used to hate Christmas music. Well, maybe not hate, but I definitely didn't listen to it year-around. I didn't even want to listen in December. I would tolerate listening on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It was actually the Third Day CD that changed it for me. When I heard Mac Powell sing "Oh, Holy Night" as if he were actually worshipping God, I think for the first time since my inaugural church pageant performance I actually READ the words. I actually paid attention to what I was singing.

Have you ever REALLY read the words? Really listened? The two songs (and I know many others but these two always get me) are proclaiming the praises of the most significant birth in the history of all mankind! The birth that had been prophesied for hundreds or years and celebrated for thousands of years to come! The lyrics take on a whole new meaning when you actually MEAN what you SING!

Try it this Christmas season. I'm not sure if "Here Comes Santa Claus" and "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" will have the same effect, so I suggest maybe starting with one of the songs mentioned above. See what happens.

Unless you are like me and Christmas songs stir your spirit and make it leap for joy already! If that is the case, then CRANK IT UP! Turn the head of the guy next to you at the red light. Drive your co-workers crazy. Get your spouse and kids involved. SING OUT LOUD! SING IT PROUD! Make your neighbors think you have LOST it!!

And if you really want to freak people out - CRANK IT UP in July! After all, it's the birth of the one-and-only, wonderful and worthy, holy and mighty, sovereign SAVIOR OF ALL MANKIND!! I think He is worth it!

Oh, and MERRY CHRISTMAS!
